When a large price gain occurs in the context of a particular asset’s primary trend, this is referred to as an impulse wave pattern in technical trading terms, a phrase that is frequently heard when discussing Elliott Wave theory. Impulse waves are responsible for the formation of uptrends and downtrends. It is required to place an impulsive order in order to gain from a directional trending move in an underlying stock that lasts between 20 and 40 minutes.
